The Brazos Bend State Park in Texas (map) is an amazing place. I’ve visited this park a couple of times since my first trip to this location. I had great encounters with alligators and I saw many bird species as well in the park. The most abundant bird of the area is probably the white ibis (Eudocimus albus). This large bird is found on a variety of inland and coastal habitats from the Gulf Coast of the USA to South America. It has a long sensitive bill and forages by sticking it into water or mud to search for prey. It usually feeds on crustaceans, insects, amphibians, small snakes and fish. When I found this bird it was feeding near the 40-Acre Lake Trail. Fortunately, it was very tame, so I could easily take a close portrait shot.
