I started my field work in 2015 at Kaena Point on Oahu, Hawaii. The main reason I chose to visit this place is the Laysan albatross (Phoebastria immutabilis). The breeding season of the Laysan albatross begins in November. In January the birds are already incubating their eggs and I was glad to see that there are nearly 100 albatross nests at Kaena Point (93 to be exact). According to Pacific Rim Conservation this is a record number of nesting birds in this colony. The previous high count was 76 in 2013. It’s gonna be a good year!

After I finished counting the birds, I took some photographs of this happy Laysan albatross pair. Hopefully, I can see their little chick soon.
