My favorite bird species in Hawaii is the Laysan Albatross (Phoebastria immutabilis). Last week I visited again their nesting colony at Kaena Point on Oahu (Hawaii). Interestingly, I didn’t see any adult birds on this tour. They all probably were on a foraging trip. The chicks are about four months old and are nearly as large as their parents, so they are always hungry, that makes the old birds very busy. This albatross chick is the same bird that I photographed before. It was a really fantastic experience to see and to document this bird growing up.
Instead of taking a full-body portrait again, I decided to take a close up picture of this photogenic creature. Fortunately, the sun was in the right position and the dry grass gave nice background for this image.
