In September, Gabi and I went on a long road trip to the west. Our first destination was the Badlands National Park in South Dakota. The park protects nearly 380 square miles of canyons, buttes and pinnacles as well as a huge undisturbed prairie. Besides the uniquely beautiful landscapes, this park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, like bison (Bison bison), bighorn sheep (Ovis canadensis), pronghorn (Antilocapra americana), black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus), desert cottontail (Sylvilagus audubonii), black-footed ferret (Mustela nigripes), prairie rattlesnake (Crotalus viridis), and many, many bird species. We spent an afternoon and a morning in the park, and fortunately, I was able to take some photos of the wildlife of the badlands too. I used my Canon EOS 5Ds and Canon 7D cameras along with the following lenses: Canon EF-S 10-22mm, Canon 17-40mm F/4, Canon 70-200mm F/4 and Canon 500mm F/4.
