American Alligator at Brazos Bend State Park – Texas

We moved to Texas at the end of July, and last week I finally had a chance to start doing nature photography in this incredible state. After some internet research I chose to visit Brazos Bend State Park (map) first. This park is not far from Houston and has about 5000 acres of prairie and wetlands with a very rich bird fauna, however, the most famous resident of the park is the American alligator (Alligator mississippiensis). I spent only a few hours in the park and I was thrilled. This place is simply awesome, I’m sure it will be one of my favorites in the Houston area. Anyway, here is my first nature photograph taken in Texas: a portrait of a basking American alligator.

Gear: Canon EOS 7D, Canon 70-200mm F/4 lens + Canon 1.4x extender, handheld
