After lots of hard work, I am very happy to have finally finished my new website. The design is clean and simple, just the way I like it, however, under the hood it is very modern, therefore it is user friendly on every platform. The final phase of the modernization was to retinafy the whole website. During the last couple of weeks I replaced all the images with their higher resolution versions, so they should look nice on every type of display. Now, that I finished this huge process, I finally have a website I am very satisfied with.

I designed my first website back in 2008. A friend of mine helped me with the coding and I really liked that site. It was a static website, however, I was able to upload new images via ftp and they appeared automatically in the galleries. I am very proud of that design, so I archived it here to keep it available as a historical document. Although it was fun to use that webpage, later I needed a more dynamic website. I wanted to write a blog about natural history and nature photography and I also wanted to show larger images in the galleries so I decided to use a content management system. After doing some research I chose WordPress, which is an open source web software. WordPress has been the engine of my website since 2012. The theme I have been using since the beginning is Photocrati. This is a premium theme for photographers with lots of customization possibilities so I was able to create a design I like without any coding. Furthermore, Photocrati had a built in gallery management system, however, in the latest update it was replaced by the more powerful Nextgen Gallery plugin and Nextgen Pro extension. It is a very advanced gallery plugin, easily managable and displays images beautifully.

It was a long process, sometimes it was really fun, while sometimes it caused me lots of headaches, but eventually I am very happy with the result.
